THE PORT OF NEW YORK & NEW JERSEY

TRADESHOW DESIGN PACKAGE

I have had a professional relationship with The Port of New York & New Jersey for over 20 years. Providing them with design services and creative solutions for their tradeshow needs. In the beginning, the design firm I worked for, only provided The Port with the physical displays and the final printed graphics. All the design work was provided by their Manhattan ad agency. - Unfortunately, the agency did not always understand the world of designing for tradeshows. Scale, resolution and the marriage of the graphics & exhibit hardware. So, many times, I would need to rework the agency’s designs at the last minute, in order for The Port to look good at their shows. - Over time, The Port’s head of marketing started to trust my creativity and reliability over their agency’s. To the point, I was working directly with her, doing all the creative for their tradeshows. This page is an example of the relationships and trust I build with my clients.

360º VIRTUAL REALITY VIDEO

This video was a challenge, an experiment and a learning experience all at the same time. - The main tradeshow of the year for The Port is RILA (Retail Industry Leaders Association), and before retiring, the head of marketing wanted to have something fun and unique at The Port’s RILA booth. Her idea was to produce a VR video, so people could experience different areas of The Port in operation. Like standing under the port side cranes as they unload the container ships onto trucks. And enduring the dizzying heights, on top of a port crane catwalk, getting a bird's eye view of The Port and New York City skyline. - The challenge was, I had no prior experience or knowledge at shooting and producing a VR video. The client was aware of this, but preferred to let us experiment with the process, verses working with someone else on her last RILA project. - In the end, we produced a fun piece that brought a lot of traffic to their booth. The client was glad she took the risk. We were all proud of our first forte into VR. And I was glad to have had the learning experience, adding something new to my toolbox for future projects.

VR GOGGLES DESIGN

Visitors that came to The Port’s booth viewed the 360º VR Experience using high end Oculus VR goggles. But, as a nice giveaway, every visitor received a pair of their own cardboard VR goggles which they could use with their smartphone. It was a nice reminder of the experience and a way for them to share the video with other people.

RILA LUNCHEON SLIDE PRESENTATION

Every year at RILA there is a luncheon where talks and presentations are made. It is also an opportunity for colleagues and clients to meet in a more casual setting. - In the luncheon area, there are large screens around the room that attendees can use to promote their services. The collection of promotions scroll in a loop as the event is going on. Each attendee is limited to a four slide presentation. This was The Port’s slide presentation.

PRE SHOW MAILER & GIVEAWAY PROMOTION

Part of prepping for a tradeshow is sending out pre show mailers and giveaway promotions, so your colleagues and clients know you are attending the show. It introduces them to the look and theme of your exhibit space and provides them with your booth number, so they can easily find you at the show.

TRADESHOW DISPLAY

Even though The Port is an important presence at RILA, they always go with a modest booth. A 10x20 portable display. Their space is used as a meet and greet to share their latest services with customers, old and new. It isn’t necessary for them to have a large island floor space, like some of the other companies that need to show off their latest equipment.
